Marcel Marceau's career really took off in the 1950s and 1960s. He toured extensively throughout Europe and the United States, performing in theaters, concert halls, and even on television. .

THE DARK SIDE

Marcel Marceau's life was greatly affected by World War II. He and his brother Alain joined the French Resistance,

they helped many Jewish children escape from Nazi-occupied France. Marcel changed his last name to Marceau to avoid detection by the Nazis, and he also started using his skills as a mime to distract and entertain German troops. His work with the Resistance would later earn him the title of "Grand Officier de la Légion d'honneur," one of France's highest honors.
